Waterfall

I approached this painting as a kind of exercise, not expecting too much of it, just a warm-up session to get going in the studio that day. I had a general idea of a composition and was laying on the paint to get the canvas covered. And then, seemingly out of nowhere, hints of a waterfall started to appear. I was using a palette knife, trying not to be heavy handed in any one area, just applying the paint with minimal blending, small strokes, not wanting to obscure what was being revealed. I was taken to a place in my mind, not an actual place. The painting was done in less than 30 minutes. I could not paint it again if my life depended on it. It is just that kind of painting, a gift from somewhere that for whatever reason was allowed to become on that day.
